Where Creativity Begins
At Wildheart, creativity grows slowly and naturally. It begins with the woods of western Pennsylvania, where soft hills, quiet trails, and small flashes of wildlife shape the way I see the world. These moments become the foundation for the stories I paint, especially the ones that follow a little fox named Basil.
Inside the Studio
My studio is where those ideas take shape. It is a lived-in space filled with brushes in jars, sketches taped to the wall, and a palette that always seems to hold the colors of the last painting. There is usually a cup of coffee nearby in my favorite fox mug. Paintings rest in different stages of progress because I like to keep them close while they are still finding their voice.

Watching Apricot Come to Life
The painting for Apricot began with the idea of a little fox trying to share his name with his new friends. In the early layers, the scene was simple. Basil sat with the small objects he gathered to help explain himself. As the painting developed, those clues became more meaningful. The basil leaves, the apricot, the hopeful way he offered them. Each detail helped shape the emotion of the moment. Little by little, the painting began to reflect the gentle humor and sweetness of a fox who is doing his very best to be understood.
Letting the Work Surprise Me
Some of my favorite moments happen when a painting reveals something unexpected. I often tuck small details into my work that make me smile. In Benny the Bunny, the painting above the fireplace shows a cottage and a willow tree, and when you look out the window in the scene, you realize it is the very same willow tree. I love hiding little connections like that, almost like a quiet wink to anyone who notices. In A Shy Little Fox, the apron hanging in the room is the same vintage apron I wear when I paint. It is a handmade piece from the 1950s that I found in an antique shop, and including it felt like a gentle nod to the hands that made it and to the hands that now paint with it. These small touches bring a sense of play and personal connection to the work, and they remind me that creativity often lives in the tiniest details.
Creativity as a Gentle Process
I do not rush my paintings. I let them breathe and settle. I let them rest when they need time. Creativity at Wildheart is slow and intuitive. It is rooted in noticing the small things. The way light touches a leaf—the way a fox might pause before stepping forward. The way a story grows is when you give it space. My paintings usually take several days to complete.
An Invitation Into the Process
Sharing behind-the-scenes moments feels like inviting someone into my studio for a quiet visit. Wildheart is not about perfection. It is about the journey. It is about a young fox named Basil finding his place in the world. It is about the layers, the revisions, the surprises, and the quiet magic that happens along the way.
If you are reading this, I hope this little glimpse into my process encourages you to notice something beautiful today. That is where creativity begins.
